Summary

At the heart of all contemplative traditions is the promise of freedom. But what does this freedom mean? Freedom from what? The answer to that: suffering. In this episode, we explore how one could actually find freedom from suffering, and how it could be experienced in a single moment, perhaps right now. 0:17.0

For the next 21 days, I will be streaming live, free 20-minute meditations on my Instagram

0:25.1

and Facebook accounts. This is a great way to practice alongside this podcast. So if you're not

0:32.1

yet following me on Instagram, just search for Corey Miscara and same on Facebook. Hope to see you there. Okay, in today's episode, we're going to talk about how to be free. More to come on that in a moment. First, let's settle in together with the sound of the bells.

1:16.7

So if you start exploring different Eastern traditions, contemplative traditions,

1:20.8

These are words used synonymously with the term enlightenment or awakening.

1:34.6

But what does it mean to be free in these contexts?

1:39.0

Free from what?

1:41.6

2:04.6

to those experiences, the quality of mind that is cultivated is such that it is not creating

2:11.9

suffering in relationship to those experiences, even if they're very painful and difficult. Now, the absolute expression of this

2:22.6

is, well, somewhat controversial as to how possible is it? Can we actually get to a place where there is

2:31.3

literally no longer suffering in relationship to life.

2:36.1

I don't know. I've met some very awakened and enlightened and free beings, but I haven't yet

2:44.2

met someone that I would say doesn't have any trace of suffering. But I have seen many people radically reduce the amount of suffering

2:53.9

in their life, myself included, through a meditation practice. So how does this happen? What is the

3:02.3

path to eliminating suffering or at least reducing it radically.
