0:12.1	Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain and when he sat down,
0:18.4	his disciples came to him. So as Jesus' ministry continues to grow, he finds himself surrounded by large crowds that continue
0:28.3	to grow as he heals and teaches of the kingdom of God. And Matthew Chapter 5 opens and You're probably familiar with this particular sermon. It's often referred to as the sermon on the mount.
0:46.0	This sermon is an authoritative sermon from Jesus, the Messiah, and it's given to his disciples to teach them what a life lived for the kingdom
0:55.5	of God will look like.
0:58.3	And he begins his sermon by laying out instructions, instructions that shed light on what life in the kingdom of God is like.
1:06.4	You could say he's laying the foundation of his kingdom's values in this first section of
1:11.5	his sermon.
1:19.3	Hopefully you're reading along with us because chapter 5 has so much more to offer than just these first 12 verses.
1:27.1	But for today, we're going to focus in on these kingdom values, oftentimes referred to as the beatitudes. Verse 2, and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
1:32.1	Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
1:37.0	Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
1:40.0	Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
1:49.0	Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
1:53.3	Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
1:56.8	Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
2:01.6	Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of
2:06.4	heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
2:16.0	Now if you've been around the church long enough this most likely isn't your first
2:20.5	time hearing these phrases.
