Ryan, I'm excited to have you congrats first of all on the latest best-selling book, Stillness is the key.

I just always find conversations with you so delightful and I'm really excited about where we're going to go today.

But I just wanted to say thanks for being with us.

Of course, no, I'm really excited.

All right, so I want to go way back.

And I want to know when does a young Ryan Holiday

begin to have some realization that you like words, you like ideas.

When does that begin to become real in your life?

I thought about this a lot. I don't have like, you know, some people have like sort of a moment where it all sort of shifted.

There wasn't that for me. I do remember as long as I can remember loving to read and loving books.

But I think like a lot of people, it's not like I grew up in some of my parents, friends, or writers,

or that I even lived in, you know, let's say you grew up in Los Angeles.

You know that this is an industry that people do this for work.

You're sort of, it's in the air, it's in the water.

You know, I grew up in Sacramento, which is kind of a government town and I grew up in the suburbs of Sacramento.

So everyone had jobs, right? And none of those jobs were in any way creative.

And I'm not sure I really even met anyone who was entrepreneurial, like who worked for themselves.
