Before we start the show today, I want to make sure you know it's a special week at NPR.

Because it was just giving Tuesday the other day.

NPR celebrates this global day of generosity every year, but this year has been a weird one, an eye one for us, you may have heard.

Federal funding for public media was eliminated on October 1st.

That means the NPR is now operating without federal support for the first time in our history.

That's more than half a century.

This is a big change and a big challenge if we keep in it a being.
