All right, it is Saturday, April the 19th, which makes it day 90 of the second Trump administration.

Just hours ago, the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deporting a second group of migrants under the Alien

Enemies Act. In a brief unsigned order, the court wrote, quote, the government is directed not to

remove any member of the putative class of detainees from the United States until further order

of this court, end quote. Two justices, Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, dissented,

surprise, surprise. The administration is trying to deport another group of men currently being held

in Texas who says our member, it says are members of a Venezuelan gang. It's the latest

development in the Trump administration's effort to swiftly deport migrants under the Alien

Enemies Act, a rarely invoked

wartime law. And presumably, this group of migrants would have also been sent to a prison in El Salvador

that's known as Seacot. It's one of the most notorious detention centers in the world.

The whole saga has become one of the biggest flashpoints of Donald Trump's second term so far,

and that's partly because of how the White House appears to be undermining the authority of the

courts. Since Trump returned to the White House, this administration has ignored or dragged its feet

or found other creative ways to avoid complying with some court orders. In some cases, it's forcing

judges to take unusual measures to try to get

the government to comply. And as a result of that, the White House is inching closer and closer

toward a direct confrontation with the courts, which could have widespread consequences for all of us.

The tensions between these two co-equal branches of government

escalated this week in two separate cases related to the administration's first set of deportations
