Hello and welcome back to the bunker I'm Andrew Harrison. It was one of the most bizarre and damaging popular delusions

ever to take hold of the American mind. Kewenon, the sprawling conspiracy theory

which held that Donald Trump was waging a secret war against elite Satan worshiping

pedophile cannibals in government business in the media and that one day he'd reveal himself

and literally save the world. Encouraged by cryptic messages on the 4-chan bulletin board from a figure known only as Q,

supposedly someone with top-level security clearance,

many of the cult follows believed it was Trump himself.

Q and on supporters threatened politicians, carried out kidnappings and even murders.

They were central to claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen,

to COVID-denialismism and to the January of the

6th assaults on the Capitol Building. The extremist Georgia Congress won Marjorie

Taylor Green was a QAnon adherent. QAnon was popular in so when 15% of Americans agreed that the government, media and

financial worlds were controlled by Satan worshiping pedophiles.

By late 2023, that number was up to 25%.

But after their promised storm or awakening failed to materialize,

the Q&on cult has ebbed somewhat,

and few people have taken time to assess the lasting damage

it did to its believers.
