0:32.0	It's an emerging field of study that looks at how environmental factors contribute to heart health.
0:37.0	That's pretty exciting, since figuring out how our environment affects our hearts, could go a long way in helping us prevent and treat heart disease.
0:47.0	So to learn more, we got in touch with one of the pioneering researchers in the field, Dr Arununi Botnagar.
0:54.0	He's a professor of medicine and the director of the Christina Lee Brown Envirum Institute
0:59.0	at the University of Louisville.
1:01.0	Here's Dr. B with the scoop on where the idea for environmental
1:05.0	cardiology came from and why it matters. The idea came up because we know that
1:11.0	heart disease is the leading cause of death and it's been the leading
1:13.2	cause of death for the last century except 1917 and maybe this year it may not be
1:18.4	but it usually kills more people than most other diseases. And so we have been treating heart disease
1:25.2	with an organic dysfunction in a person. We try to control the cholesterol, their blood
1:32.0	pressure, and we try to get the cholesterol, their blood pressure,
1:33.2	and we try to get them to exercise more,
