On the 23rd of March 2020, exactly three years ago, then Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the British people to stay at home.

Two days later the Coronavirus Act was passed by Parliament, giving the government unprecedented powers of control.

At first it was a novelty some time off as the nation barced in the unusually warm spring sunshine.

But pretty soon it was clear that three weeks to squash the sombrero was to coin a phrase, old hat.

Johnson himself succumbed to Covid, admitted to hospital in early April 2020.

News the Prime Minister was in intensive care, his life in genuine danger shocked the nation while weakening Johnson's resolve.
