Today, what Sudan's war reveals about America's fading global power.

Sudan is in crisis.

In April of 2023, a power struggle between two military factions plunged the country into civil war,

collapsing much of its infrastructure.

According to the UN, nearly half of the 40 million people living in Sudan face extreme hunger.

Reports of mass sexual violence continue to emerge,

and over 12 million people have been displaced,

more than in Gaza and Ukraine combined.

And yet, compared with other devastating conflicts,

Sudan is getting relatively little international attention.

Earlier this year, she and Pulitzer Prize-winning

photographer Lindsay Adario traveled to Sudan to report on the conflict from the ground.

Anne told me from what she observed, she believes that this conflict and the lack of response to it

speaks to the collapse of the liberal world order. The system of international cooperation established after World War II

with the United States at its center

that's worked to uphold free trade, democracy, and peace.
