Summary

John and Shane provide encouragement for a listener whose community is hosting a gay pride weekend. A number of local businesses in this area are hosting adults-only fundraisers for the local teen LGBTQ+ organization. How can Christians correctly encourage the community in light of businesses that fail to think well about the LGBTQ+ lifestyle and the consequences of encouraging its ideology to young people?

Shane then shares a question seeking clarity on God's design for marriage. The listener is concerned that the emphasis of procreation on marriage may insinuate some unions don't represent the image of God. In response, John speaks to a Christian worldview of marriage, encouraging believers to understand the expansive nature of God's design.

To close, John replies to a pushback to a recent BreakPoint commentary critiquing the #LeaveLoud campaign. A listener argues that his majority white church doesn't understand the challenges of being a black man in their community and asks what kind of response he should give in such a situation. John and Shane offer important points on the purpose and role of Church, with John asking the man to engage his neighbors by providing feedback on important cultural realities for the church to understand.

Welcome everyone to the Breakpoint podcast. In our Q&A segment Ask the Colson Center, I'm Shane Morris, host of the upstream podcast and one of the writers here at Breakpoint. I'm joined today by John Stone Street, president of the Colson Center, and the voice of Breakpoint. Today we're answering your questions. All of these were sparked by Breakpoint commentaries, short courses, and the Colson Fellows program.

John, our first question today reminds me of a story that I just posted a few minutes ago out of Loudoun County, Virginia, where I

0:39.0

actually lived for a few years right outside D.C. there, and it's the, it's the former

0:43.4

location of the headquarters of the Colson Center there in the Prison Fellowship Building.

0:49.0

There was a PE teacher placed on leave after this impassioned speech to the school board disputing the

0:57.1

claims of transgenderism. And it really brings up the fact, John, that schools are an enormous

1:03.4

battleground on this issue and many other issues. And I don't think Christians can say, well,

1:08.1

you know, we plan on pulling our kids out or homeschooling them or private schooling them and then just say, it's not our problem.

1:14.7

Like even if those things are true, even if you are going to, you know, choose another option for your kids, it doesn't mean that you don't have to care.

1:22.3

We pay taxes. We're part of the community and these kids are our neighbors.

1:25.6

So it's a big deal. And to that end, we have this question that it's got a lot to do with the same issue. So I'll read it and we'll tackle this one because it's something that every community in this country is going to have to think about sooner or later. This person writes in, our public school started a gay, straight alliance club about 10 years ago.

1:45.5

From what I know, it started because a young man moved to our community for a year who identified as transgender.

1:51.2

He pressured the school to start the club and then mysteriously moved.

1:55.2

We have a rural community and the whole thing seems pretty fishy to me.

1:58.3

But the club has been operating for 10 years now.

2:01.3

And this group has solicited local businesses to help fundraise for the youth involved in the

2:06.8

Gay Straight Alliance. I'm wondering what my response should be as a believer. There is a gathering

2:11.8

at a local brewery that is obviously restricted against the youth, meaning kids impacted by this can't attend the

2:18.8

fundraiser because it's a brewery. It states that the age restriction is 21 on the flyer.

2:23.5

Another business is hosting a drag show limited again to adults over the age of 18. I'm really tempted

2:29.0

to print flyers and sit down with local business members to educate them on transgenderism in youth. I appreciated
