0:09.0	Recently, we've seen the effects of cyber attacks on the business world.
0:14.0	Data breaches at companies like J.P. Morgan, Yahoo, Home Depot, and Target have caused losses of hundreds of millions
0:21.7	and in some cases billions of dollars.
0:25.4	It wouldn't take many large attacks to ravage the world economy.
0:29.9	And the public sector has not been immune either.
0:33.4	In 2012 to 2014,
0:37.0	there was a significant data breach
0:38.6	at the US Office of Personnel Management.
0:41.8	Security clearance and fingerprint data was compromised,
0:44.9	affecting 22 million employees.
0:50.2	And you may have heard of the attempts by state-sponsored hackers
0:54.2	to influence used stolen data
0:56.3	to influence election outcomes in a number of countries.
1:00.3	Two recent examples are the compromise
1:02.4	of a large amount of data from the Bundestag,
1:05.3	the National Parliament of Germany,
1:07.3	and the theft of emails from the US Democratic National Committee.
1:12.6	The cyber threat is now affecting our democratic processes.
1:17.6	And it's likely to get worse.
1:20.6	As computer technology is becoming more powerful,
1:23.6	the systems we use to protect our data are becoming more vulnerable.
