Summary

Nathan Baird and Doug Lesmerises have decided to call this Monday episode looking at the college football scene and examining what's next for Ohio State "Monday Madness." Nathan writes a column at cleveland.com each Monday of the same name and you should be reading that, too. But here, your ears can take in this Buckeye Talk episode offering an early preview of the Ohio State-Penn State matchup on Saturday night. How should OSU fans view the Nittany Lions, who are coming off an upset loss at Indiana? Plus, how good is Wisconsin and what will it mean if the Badgers lose new QB Graham Mertz to a positive COVID test for a few weeks? Might Michigan have a talent surge this season, including at quarterback? And what does the early College Football Playoff picture look like? All that and more from Nathan and Doug on this Monday Madness Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Learn more about your ad choices. if those who've been following that Monday column we're just tying it all

0:40.4

together now that is it's branding it's branding in the age of

0:44.3

of the 21st century I'm Nathan Barrett he's Doug Lamereese

0:49.5

this is going to be the the podcast that kind of accompanies that what has now become a weekly staple for us at Cleveland.com.

Doug, I kind of a, I feel for you a little bit, you obviously have a very busy weekend, but did you feel like the Browns game today and kind of the last minute

1:03.6

insanity? Does it balance out the lack of drama that you got from the Buckeyes on

1:09.7

Saturday? Yeah, I mean I actually love,. It's a crazy weekend, but I love doing Ohio State on Saturday and the Browns on Sunday and I even tried last year I wanted to like write a column every Monday that kind of linked the two because I know there's a lot of people out there who care about both. But it did. It's a reminder to me. I mean, typically I am more optimistic about the Browns than most people and more pessimistic about Ohio State than most people which I guess just means I'm a cranky old

1:35.9

Contrarian which is fine but yes it was I don't know if I could live in a world where like every Ohio State game, you know, 11 times a year came down to like a last second pass.

1:46.6

But I will say for people who do care about the Browns and Ohio State, the way Baker Mayfield played in the second half, especially late in the game on Sunday,

1:56.8

reminded me so much of how J.T. Barrett played in the Penn State comeback in 2017.

2:00.9

And I just think they're so similar as quarterbacks who hesitate are reluctant to let things

2:06.2

rip sometimes and then when their backs are against the wall they actually play better.

2:10.6

And I've said that a million times and I thought this was another example of it and it reminded me of 2017 Penn State so much.

2:16.4

Sounds like a post. Have you already written that post like in the past? Have you made that comparison before?

2:20.6

I have I have had some real trouble lately with writing things and in the

2:25.2

being in the midst of writing them and saying I have written this before and I'm

2:30.3

remembering it I hope the readers aren't remembering it because this is a repeat so I don't know and I'm also at the point where I talk so much now I don't know when I talk something and when I write something so I'll probably have to go back and search in the system. I think I have written it, but if I haven't, I'll probably write it for Monday.
