Summary

For this week's case, Tabitha is taking us to the Pacific Northwest to Portland, OR. Our story centers on Nancy Brophy and Daniel Brophy. Dan was a husband, culinary whiz, and instructor at the Oregon Culinary Institute whose life turn a tragic turn for the worst in 2018 when Daniel was found dead at the Institute with one bullet in the back and one bullet in the chest.

Nancy claimed she had been at home all morning during the time of the murder, but CCTV footage spotted a van with distinct scratches matching her van around the institute in the early hours of June 2nd when she was supposedly at home. Students of the institute were questioned, but no leads came out of it.

“If you have to be so methodical, you dumb bitch, why didn’t you make it look like an actual robbery!? All you had to do was take his wallet! – Gretchen (35:55)

The police were baffled as to how such a beloved chef and instructor could be gunned down in cold blood. Then an old essay about murdering husbands surfaced, financial troubles came to light, and discrepancies with her gun were discovered. With so many pieces of evidence pointing at Nancy Brophy, could this loving wife of 25 years be the killer after all?

“She paid on those insurance policies, she learned Dan’s schedule, and actually, just three weeks before Dan was murdered, she showed up at Dan’s work at 7:30 in the morning…If you ask me, I think it was a dry-run.” – Tabitha (44:45)
