Summary

Dennis Peron first tried cannabis in Vietnam. After smuggling two pounds of high-grade herb home from the front, he became a charismatic and defiant leader of San Francisco's medical cannabis and gay rights movements. A fiery street-fighting optimist, Dennis suffered multiple stints in prison and even took a bullet in a police raid—all without ever giving up or backing down. 0:39.8	Jesiman really loved that made her a fan of our show. And that's how she ended up being our
0:45.7	guest. So we wanted to rebroadcast this story as it is a really crucial one for anyone
0:51.7	trying to understand the history of cannabis legalization in the United
0:56.7	States. Isn't that right, Bean? Yeah, this is an episode we actually recorded back in 2018,
1:02.7	very shortly after Dennis Perron's passing. It was very early in our run of making great
1:09.8	moments in wheat history.
1:11.1	And I can remember still feeling really, really raw feelings as we recorded the show and listening back to it.

1:18.9	I think you'll feel that we were kind of getting our feet under us of how to make great moments in weed history.
1:24.6	And for me, this was kind of a pivotal episode where I really got as
1:28.9	emotionally involved in an episode as I ever had up to that point. Yeah, it's definitely a story
1:34.7	that pulls on the heartstrings a little bit more than our usual fare. But it's also a really
1:40.7	inspiring story of activism. This guy got in the ring and fought for people's rights to use cannabis as a medicine,
1:49.2	and we just love him for it.
