Vince, let's talk about some of Notre Dame's, I guess you'd call them lofty expectations this season here in the Irish Breakdown podcast brought to by our friends over at Fandoul.

Notre Dame has been one of the most talked about programs this offseason.

And like that's not a crazy sentence, I guess you could say, because Notre Dame is one of the biggest programs in college football.

This year, though, it's a little bit different.

And when we start talking about what their lofty expectations are, they're talked about

in every playoff conversation, favorites to win national championships.

It's all of those things.

Now, look, here's the difference.

The standard at Notre Dame is to always compete for a title.

Is that fair?

Would you say that that's fair?

100%.

But when was the last time that that was the expectation?

We can talk.

I mean, the standard in 2016 was to compete for a title and they went 4.8.

Correct.

The standard in 2007, because your Notre Dame is to compete for a title,

but nobody was expecting it.

That was not the expectation.

When would you say the last time that that was the expectation, 06?

Yeah, well, yeah, because that was the last time that they were a preseason top five team,

I want to say, was in 2006 with Brady Quinn and Jeff Samarja and cover of Sports Illustrated and all those different things.
