All right, welcome to The Man Talk Show. I'm Connor Beaton.

0:13.9

And today is the final installment of the May Mental Health Month.

0:18.0

I have been sharing for crucial tools, resources that have been

0:23.7

instrumental in my own improvement of my mental health and well-being. And so today I'm going to

0:30.9

share about how I reconnected to and regulated, begin to learn how to regulate my own nervous

0:36.9

system. So you can think about this as how

0:39.3

you can return, reconnect, and regulate your nervous system. And in the video, I'm going to share a few

0:45.2

things. One, my story about it because like most people, I grew up with ADD. And so in order to

0:51.6

function properly in the world, I needed to learn how to regulate my nervous system.

0:56.3

1:01.2

because that term gets thrown around a lot and generally don't, people don't really have a concept

1:06.2

for what it means. So I'm going to share the etymology of it. I'm going to recap how,

1:10.2

just in a very basic way, how the nervous system functions in case you're not fully familiar with it.

1:16.1

And then I'm going to talk a little bit about simple steps, very tactical, tangible steps,

1:22.4

like I've been doing in all these videos and audio sessions about what you can do to begin to reconnect to and regulate

1:31.9

your nervous system. So this was important for me and took quite a while for me to grasp

1:39.3

and wrap my head around and wrap my body around because like I said, as a kid, I grew up with

1:44.7

pretty severe ADD. I was the class clown. I had a ton of sugar constantly flowing through

1:51.6

my veins. I think I was probably like one quarter sugar in my blood. I, you know, I would like

1:58.4

stash chocolate chips in the couch, eat cookie dough raw, you know,

2:03.2

have ice cream, giant chocolate chip muffins for breakfast.

2:06.9

Like I had unfettered access to basically as much sugar as I could possibly consume as a kid.
