Summary

If God is holy, then He can’t sin. If God can’t sin, then He can’t sin against you. If He can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make Him the most trustworthy being there is?

I’m thrilled to have Jackie Hill Perry back on the podcast to share about her much anticipated book, “Holier Than Thou”.

She walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news. As it turns out, God being “holier than thou” is actually the best news in the world, and it’s the key to trusting Him.

“Holiness is really abstract, but what does it have to do with me? The truth is it has everything to do with the way we live because the way we engage with the world around us is symptomatic of what we believe is true about God.”

We also chat about how Jackie doesn’t “mom alone,” about her growing family and the holy calling of motherhood. This is a powerful episode!

mentorship and it is with Jackie Hill Perry. Okay, God is holy. I get it. But what does

0:30.7

it have to do with me? Is it just supposed to be in my brain or is it supposed to affect my life

in some way? You know, like, I'm suffering.

I'm going through things. I have temptation. My kids are getting on my nerves. My husband's never here.

Like, it's all these things that we want to know how holiness, what it has to do with any of that.

0:48.6

And the truth is, that's everything to do with it. Because the way we live and the way we engage with the world around us

0:55.6

is really like symptomatic of how or what we believe is true about God. You know, if we don't believe

1:05.1

that God cares about us, we won't give them our care. If we don't believe that God loves us,

1:09.9

we're going to go to all kinds of relationships and all kinds of other means to get love. If we don't believe that God loves us, we're going to go to all kinds of

relationships and all kinds of other means to get love. If we don't believe that God is a

1:15.6

forgiving God, a saving God, then we'll resort to legalism, believing that we have the ability

1:20.4

to save ourselves just by being in church and tithing all the time. And so I think understanding

1:26.0

the nature of God, as explained in the scriptures,

1:29.9

has everything to do with our life. Since 2017, we have been doing this summer of mentorship

1:38.4

series where we republish six previous conversations with mentors. And we decided this year in 2025, we would

1:47.9

focus on something that was impactful to me this year that I started the year reading the book

1:53.1

Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer. And then the premise of the book is to be with Jesus,

1:59.4

become like him, and do as he did.
