the world, really, and in many senses defined a generation, both politically and in many

other ways, not just, of course, the September 11th terror attack launched by Al-Qaeda, led

by Osama bin Laden but subsequent attacks

including one upon my home city of London that were that that sprung from the same well of evil now

I mean a few times over the years I've shared with you, recently really, the, my increasing worry that the danger of having to find a hot take on every subject every morning

can be really unhelpful and really damaging. I've read this article in the Times, a couple of times.

I'm not going to read it to you. But it appears under the

headline, awful truth about 9-11, the terrorists won. The War on Terror weakened America and

cost far more in money, lives and foreign policy distractions than it gained. And not for the first time. I find myself a bit wary

of going down that particular road. I'm not suggesting that whoever wrote to the chap that

wrote it has overreached in the search for a hot take or, you know, what will get me
