Summary

When police in black helicopters started descendingĀ on Humboldt County, CA to bring 'death from above' to illicit cannabis grows, the locals banded together and fought back.Ā  As a co-founder of both the Citizens Observation Group and community-supported KMUD radio, Agnes Patak spent decades monitoring the cops and broadcasting real-time warnings about their raiding parties. She tells us how CAMP (Campaign Against Marijuana Planting) made life a living hell for Mom & Pop growers, and why she's so proud to see her community continue to honor the plant, the environment, and our collective struggle for peace and justice.Ā  EPISODE SPONSOR: PODTONES This episode of Great Moments in Weed History is brought to you by Podtones—the first 100% pure cannabis rosin vaporizer. Yeah, this is why there is now currently no cannabis in Northern California because of camp and their successful campaign.

Also, this is probably the worst camp that you can go to. There are no s'mores. There are all

1:03.3

narcs. So fuck this camp. People have heard us talk a lot on this show about the war on drugs.

And we often talk about two groups that were

1:13.5

particularly targeted, which is people of color, people in the inner cities, people involved

1:20.7

in the cannabis distribution end of it. And of course, up in Northern California, in more rural areas, are growers. And so this

1:30.3

is a story about those growers, up in Humbold, up in the Emerald Triangle, organizing to literally

And this is a region that's story for having some of the best cannabis in the world all the way up

1:50.6

until today, right?

1:52.3

And we're talking about an actual war with helicopters raining down from the sky, coming down
