Right, I'm joined by the Athletics, Manchester City correspondent now, Sam Lee.

1:03.1

Sam, you've written about Jack Grealish a lot in his time at City.

1:07.1

And this piece almost is a microcosm of the criticism, of the praise, of the good things he does, the bad things he does. You've said in the headline that there's two parts to the Jack Grealish debate. Can you explain them? It's been the same all the way through. If we go back to, I think it was last December, Greenish gave an interview with, he was the BBC, and he said, I need to score more goals. And then that was put to Guadiola in a press conference and he was like, I think he's been

1:28.8

listening too much to people who, you know, pay too much attention to the statistics.

1:32.6

And he was like, there's other things that he does for the team that are really good.

1:36.2

And then, you know, behind the scenes, they've talked and Guardiola just telling him all

1:40.2

the time.

1:41.4

Don't worry so much about that because you're doing this. This is really important. We really treasure this. We really treasure that. So that's been the case for

1:50.2

getting on for a year now. It seems genuine as well from Guardiola, doesn't it? I was in a press

1:54.9

conference on Friday when people are asking again about his output because of Jack's been so open

2:00.7

and he was once again post-matchel wolves about not scoring enough, not assisting enough. And when Guadiola spoke about it, there was a genuineness about the idea that he doesn't need to score more or assist more. There's just very specific things that Pep wants him to do for his team. Guadiola does want, you know, this has been a private thing, but now it's a public thing, because he said it publicly on Friday. He said, we do want it to score more, and Jack wants him to score more. So nobody's really disputing that, but then I think the problem in inverted comments that we've had since the weekend is, obviously, Guadiolla said we didn't sign it for the incredible goals and assists. and what I think he means is, you know, 15, 20 goals and 10 assists or whatever. And then, you know, that was on the back page of the Daily Mail. My colleague Jack covered that very well. And then, you know, Richard Keyes with his big kind of cult following tweet and said, I've never seen so much nonsense in my life. I think that tapped into a lot of views. You know, people are thinking, this guy, this kind of maverick player who can, you know, light up games and plays with like magic in his boots or whatever, cost a hundred million pound who's gone to Manchester City. So therefore he should be, you know, skinning players, left, right and centre, scoring loads of goals. How can you say you've not bought him for that it just sounds like guadio was saying you defended him yeah just defending him

3:11.5

for no reason you know just saying like oh don't worry so and it does sound like you defended it when

3:15.6

you say oh it's good that he um attracts players to him and then gives the ball to rodry
