0:16.7	As a society becomes less Christian, then it is going to be less concerned about the weak, the vulnerable, and the poor. Because
0:21.4	women's rights, minority rights, children's rights, human rights,
0:27.1	are built on Jesus's ethic. When you remove Jesus from the public square,
0:32.1	humanity just returns to what it has been in the past,
0:36.0	the powerful exploiting the week.
0:39.2	There are significant sections of the Old Testament that are designed to protect the weak and vulnerable.
0:45.0	Deuteronomy 24 and 25 are one of those sections of Old Testament law.
0:50.0	Instead of choosing a verse or two to focus on, let's just look at several verses and then see if we can find the common theme.
0:56.7	Okay, buckle up, it should be fun. Let's start with Deuteronomy Chapter 24, verse 1.
1:02.4	If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something
1:06.6	indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends
1:11.4	her from his house, and after she leaves his house, she becomes the wife of another man,
1:16.2	and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce,
1:19.8	gives it to her, and sends her from his house.
1:22.0	Or if he dies, then her first husband who divorced
1:25.6	her is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled.
1:29.9	That would be detestable in the eyes of the Lord.
1:33.0	So can we just start by pointing out that divorce is not commended here, it's not permitted
1:38.9	here, in fact these verses are not concerned about whether or not a divorce should happen.
1:44.0	It simply deals with the reality that divorce will happen,
