Welcome back. This is the Big Blue banter New York Giants football podcast. I'm Dan Schneier.

Join as always my co-ist. Nick Bellato. Today we're here to break down the Giants to

hire Wink Martindale as their defensive coordinator. He comes along with a three-year contract,

which is actually pretty important

when you consider that part of the reason why the Ravens moved on and Point Martindale moved on

as well from the Ravens was contractual issues. He wanted more money, I believe. He felt like he

deserved more money. He was a head coach candidate last off season. People like him a lot. So I think it's big. The Giants said, listen, we don't care. We're the Giants. Again, everybody likes the crap on John Marr. It's the fun thing to do these days. But John Maris spends, there hasn't been one off season where I've seen where I've, or one season where the Giants have been 40, 50 million under the cap. And he spends crazy on these coaches.

He brought in a huge staff for Joe Judge. He fired Joe Judge. He fired Shermer. He fired McAdu. All those times, he had to pay the remaining salary on their contracts. Once again, he came out last year, made Patrick Graham one of the highest defensive coordinators in the NFL. Now, I'm sure he just made Wink Martindale, one of the highest paid defensive coordinators in the NFL.

So I give kudos to John Mara. highest defensive coordinators in the NFL. Now, I'm sure he just made Wink Martindale, one of the

highest paid defensive coordinators in the NFL. So I give kudos to John Mara. I know it's been bad lately and people just want to say, oh, it's the owner's fault. It starts the top down. I don't think he's been perfect. He screwed up big time on Gettleman. He made a bigger, worse decision sticking so long with Gettleman.

And I think personally, he has these preset mindsets on the quarterback position that can get the Giants in trouble. And I think it's a big reason why he still loves Daniel Jones and feels like the Giants have done Daniel Jones so wrong. Daniel Jones is going to still be so amazing. He has these presets at quarterback. I get it. He has issues as an owner. But listen, he spends on the staffs, and that's all I can ask for in my mind.

Because some co-s, some owners, look at what Mike Brown does. And I know the Bengals are in the Super Bowl.
