On today's program, we're going to look at how Francis Chan's Calvinistic sociology may impact his evangelistic methodology.

0:07.7

Let's dive in.

0:12.5

Hello and welcome back to Sociology 101.

0:19.7

Today we're going to be listening to a video clip from Francis Chan, who's a, I hate to call him a Calvinist because so little of anything he says sounds Calvinistic.

0:30.5

He's one of those, what I would refer to maybe as an inconsistent, low, or maybe even a nominal kind of a Calvinist in the sense that it really does not impact

0:38.8

much of his ministry, at least outwardly. He has tended to align himself with Calvinistic

0:45.9

theologians, but one has to wonder if, if like Rick Warren in the episode we did earlier,

0:52.9

where he's so amenable and cordial that he never

0:58.0

wants to disagree with whoever he's talking to. So a kind of a what you might call a

1:02.2

chameleon type of theologian that if he's with John Piper, he sounds like he agrees with

1:06.7

everything John Piper says. But if he was hanging out with me or some other, you know,

1:10.8

traditional theologian, then he would probably sound like them. I'm not sure if Francis has a lot,

1:16.9

Francis Chan has a lot information out there about where he stands with regard to the doctrines

1:22.1

of predestination, election, how he would exegete Romans 9 or Ephesians 1 or something of that nature.

1:28.1

One of the things I appreciate about Francis is a passionate preacher.

1:32.0

He is an evangelist at heart.

1:34.1

And we've used him at our events before.

1:37.0

And he's been invited to our events and been a part of what we do here in Texas Baptist.

1:42.6

And so a lot of positive things and good things

1:45.5

that I would say about him, just like I do John Piper and other leading Calvinist. But this clip was

1:50.6

sent to me by a listener just recently, and I appreciate those that send me clips and give me

1:55.8

materials to go through and to look at to see kind of how this trend is happening in our current
