I'm not just talking about Dallas. I'm talking about the canes on Sunday night. Enter Miami and Lionel Messi made their way to North Texas. They made their way to Frisco. They made their way in the round of 16 in the league cup to take on FC Dallas.

Last Wednesday when the game was announced that both teams had advanced forward in this intra season tournament. FC Dallas sent out a link. Both of my boys play for FC Dallas. We put in for tickets and got four tickets to see Lionel Messi as it worked out. I thought I was going to have to work ended up giving away some of those tickets.

Good friend of mine. Awesome dude. The MLS hooked us up. Got us a few more and we got to go the entire family along with a few friends for my boys up to Frisco up to FC Dallas and enter Miami. And it was an awesome game and Messi lived up to the hype. He scored two goals. He assisted another goal.

Messi was undeniable. Everyone in the stadium knew, for example, when they had a free kick to tie the game. Dallas was up four to three. And it looked like Messi's first game of the season, a clip you probably have seen across social media.

Not a penalty kick, but a free kick outside the box. The other team is allowed to make a wall in front of you.

The idea is that the opposing team can make the geometry difficult between a wall on one side of the goal and the goalie on the other side of the goal.

The theory is you should have most of the real estate covered a ball shouldn't sail over the wall if they jump up and hit it with their head and it shouldn't go around the wall because the goalie should be able to cover that real estate.

Not with Messi. He took a free kick there with the score tied four to three. It was blocked. It hit the wall. It bounced to the other side of the box.

Messi likes to shoot with his left on the other side of the box. Now the right side of the box facing the goal.

There was a scrum for a 50 50 ball and the whistle was blown foul on Dallas another free kick for Messi. And I swear to you at this moment, you could hear the stadium exhale.

You could hear it and you could feel it. You could feel the inevitable.

A kid turned to me who was sitting in front of me. This kid was from Mexico, big fan of Messi. He goes, you know he's scoring this one.

I said, yeah, I do know this is a goal. And of course it was and it shouldn't be and it wouldn't be for the vast majority of players in this world.

But not only did this go in, it was a punctuation mark. It was an exclamation point. It felt like the end of a paragraph and end of a chapter and end of the book.

It was fate. Messi didn't even drill it. He didn't have to.

Two steps up, lifted the ball over the wall, slotted it literally into the most tight box in the upper 90 corner over the wall, which by the way, professional soccer players, professional athletes as they are, the goalie still got within a hands linked from that spot.
