Getting injured soldiers out of harm's way is harder when drones are always watching.

In the post-9-11 years, the policy pushed the ratio of killed to wounded inaction

to historically low levels. Then came drones. The proliferation of small, cheap, unmanned

vehicles, has upended warfare, particularly in Ukraine. And it's challenging traditional systems of medical response,

according to Jay Price, a military reporter for WUNC News in North Carolina.

They see everything, is the way they put it. The drones see everything. They have not just

cameras. They have night vision. They have thermal vision, they can see heat signatures.

You know, it's a pretty big thing. If you're trying to run some sort of medical facility, you need power.

So they were struggling to hide generators and hide vehicles, not have many vehicles around,

kind of have this kind of low signature.

They were under constant surveillance, but also constant threat

because of the small attack drones, mainly,

that are kind of these first-person view things that people are pretty familiar with.

They're kind of essentially the same thing as consumer drones

that you can go and get it best by or whatever.

Only they've been armed. This has forced all kinds of changes in combat casualty care and the way that

we're thinking about how we're going to have to do combat casualty care and future conflicts.

So going from the golden hour to many hours, maybe even days?

The golden day, the golden week.

We just know it's a longer period of time.
