Summary

After a trying week and a half in this nation's history, Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open the podcast this week discussing Drew Brees' comments about the kneeling for the anthem and the harsh criticism he faced in response from his teammates, colleagues, the press and public. Can he earn back the trust of other Saints players? On Friday, 31 of the 32 NFL coaching staffs around the league can return to their facilities. What does this mean for the the start of training camps in July and how will the limited press access affect how fans consume and understand the game in 2020 and beyond? (20:20)Terez & Charles wrap up the show breaking down the tiers of young QBs. Obviously Mahomes and Lamar are at the top, but where do the gifted but ultimately unproven talents of Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and Baker Mayfield rank? 0:24.4

We didn't do the podcast earlier in this week,

0:27.3

you know, given the discussions that were being held about police brutality

0:30.6

and George Floyd and the state of the nation.

0:33.4

It kind of felt like we need some time to let that breathe.

0:37.4

But I'm still going to ask you this.

0:40.6

How important in today's NFL is it to read the room?

0:45.0

I don't, I mean, I don't think it can get any more important than it is heading into the 20-20 season season then I would say you know look 2017 going into that

0:57.6

season it was extremely important and yet this feels exponentially

1:02.3

different now like this feels in a weird way I kind of feel like we're back to where we were at the

1:08.1

beginning of the 2017 season and what I mean by that is I see a spate of statements being put out by obviously not just

1:17.8

the NFL but since we're talking about the NFL here I see a spate of statements

1:21.2

being put out by NFL teams that feel, some of them feel genuine,

1:25.2

some of them feel very corporate, some of them aren't saying anything.

1:28.9

And I see some players who seem to be turning a corner in terms of some of the things we were talking about in 2017, if only by not being silent.

1:39.0

But then, you know, when I see what Drew Breeze said and I know that he has come out and he has

1:46.4

apologized to the team and he has tried to clarify his remarks it doesn't

1:51.9

remove that in the moment when he once again connects, kneeling to the

1:58.0

anthem, to the military.

2:00.5

I'm just like, this is, it's deflating because I'm like in three years

2:05.3

It just feels like we've just circled back to where we were
