Good afternoon. This week, we're looking at pay. So let's start with Elle's story.

I had been in my job for four years at the point I was asking for a pay rise. I actually went for an interview with the competitor. I basically felt that having another job offer gave me a stronger and firmer

footing, knowing what I was worth. I took this to my existing manager and basically just explained that I was very loyal to the firm.

I had no intention of leaving, but this is what I was being offered elsewhere.

I felt pretty anxious going into the meeting because I just didn't know what the reaction would be of my manager.

I actually thought it was quite bullsy and controversial
