I have to admit upfront that when we talk with my dad,

a lot of feelings when you just said, wow, you have a dad.

And not just a dad, but a really compassionate present in my life,

dispensing of wisdom and concern, kind of dad.

And I think what I want to say is both, I felt very acutely in that moment.

Cheryl does not have a father in her life.

And in some ways a lot of healing to do from that relationship.

And also on the other side of it, incredible gratitude that I do have a dad,

who's still alive, and not just still alive, but vital, and still teaching me things,

and still sometimes in ways that are even uncomfortable for me,
