Summary
It’s easy to focus so much on caring for our families that we neglect our own personal faith.
In this episode, Shelley Giglio, co-founder of Passion Conferences and Passion City Church, shares wisdom on what it looks like for women to cultivate a strong, personal relationship with God. The conversation explores how our faith shapes our homes, why it matters for our kids to see it lived out, and how to keep Jesus at the center in everyday life.
We talk about practical ways to grow spiritually, the influence of a parent’s faith on the next generation, and the lasting impact of consistently showing up with intention.
This episode is a meaningful reminder that investing in your own faith is one of the most powerful ways to impact your family.

| 1:02.0 | Hey, friends. Hey friends, welcome back to Part of the Mess. I'm your host, Courtney Defeo, and I'm so delighted to bring you this episode today with Shelly Giglio. And y'all, I have long time admired |
| 1:06.9 | and respected her as a leader and a pastor. But I love when you get in the room with somebody. I've actually met her a couple times in person, but today just having a conversation with her like, she's even better in person and she's the real deal. And she really loves Jesus. And she cares about that for us as women and as moms. And so that was my desire today to have her on. It was like, I can give you all the tips in the world about being a great parent and what we should do. But also, it really comes down to like, do we love Jesus? Are we personally following him? And is that overflowing into the lives of our kids? And so that's why I wanted to narrow in on this as we kind of close our year, is to really say, like, if we're going to be Christian parents, what does it look like to be a Christian and to seek after God and lean into him? And Shelly was the perfect guess for that today. I love her heart for women. I love her heart for our kids and the next generation as well. But if you don't know, Shelley Giglio is a chief strategist for Six Steps Records. She's also the co-founder with her husband, |
| 2:01.9 | Louis Giglio of Passion Conferences, which started in 1997. And then they also planted a church |
| 2:08.1 | named Passion City Church in 2009, and they now have multiple campuses throughout the Atlanta |
| 2:13.3 | and Washington, D.C. area. She is also the leader of a gathering for women in Atlanta called The Grove, which I've yet to go to, and I'm dying to. So if you're in Atlanta, make sure you check that out. But I'm just, again, delighted to have her. She is one of those phenomenal leaders and pastors out there in the world. I'm grateful for her impact on my life, her teaching, and just the impact she's had on my kids through |
| 2:34.4 | passion. So here we go with Shelley Giglio. |
| 2:42.4 | Hey, Shelly, welcome to Pardon the Mess. How are you today? I am so excited to be with you guys. |
| 2:47.0 | Thanks for inviting me. Shelly, you're the first one that's ever been early, and I'm just |
| 2:51.6 | want to really applaud. Well, you know, my dad taught me this early on. If you are on time, you're late. Exactly. So I've always tried to just go for the 10 minutes early. If nothing else, it gives you a second to prepare and breathe before you do whatever you're about to do. So I try, I, I can't say that I'm 100% successful, but I do my best to be early or at the latest on time. I am so impressed. When I met Ron in Atlanta, your town, we worked at a PR firm early on, and I was always right cutting it right close to come in the office and I would come in there, flustered. And he goes, I just have a thought for you. Like, come early. And then I'm not stressed out. He's like, I've had my coffee. And so I'm thankful I'm married to him because I was like, whoa, life is just better when I'm. You're not freaking out in Atlanta traffic. There, isn't there? Some good balance. That's right. I know. I've learned a lot myself. I have to ask you if you remember this and you can say no, but you were recording a podcast |
