Answering those questions that make you go, um, um, um, moment of um comes to you from APM Studios. I'm Anna G. Art is one of my favorite hobbies. I love drawing, painting, even making the occasional clay sculpture or whittled wooden figurine.

Well, like going to art museums and looking at all the stuff there, too.

But the coolest art I ever saw wasn't in a museum.

It was in a cave.

This was about 10 years ago when I was in France working on an archaeological dig.

There was a cave on a nearby farmer's property, and he offered to give us a tour of the paintings inside, made by humans more than 10,000 years ago.

When we walked into the cave, the first thing I noticed was how dark and cold it was just a few steps from the entrance. Caves

don't have windows, so back when people were living in there, they had to get light from fires or

torches. Luckily, we had big flashlights. We walked for about five minutes down the dark, narrow,

sloping stone passageway and stopped next to a big piece of the cave

wall jutting out close to the ceiling. Our guide lifted up his lantern so we could see. The rock had

been painted to look like the head and shoulders of a bison. Its head was lowered, looking like it was

about to stomp its hooves and charge right at us.

On the wall next to the bison's head were some red and black figures of deer and horses,

and some other markings I couldn't really make out.

It was incredible to be standing and looking at something that someone had created so long ago.

I will always remember those paintings.

But I also wonder how they were made.
