As most of you know, it is a favorite Mormon apologetic tactic to try to defend the Book of Mormon

and argue that it is an ancient and authentic document by looking at legends and other scriptures

to which Joseph Smith did not have access, legends and scriptures that end up being reflected in the pages of the Book of

Mormon. When the Apologist shows the ancient legend that shows up in the Book of Mormon,

the Apologist will always say, how did Joseph know? Tonight, we're going to talk about two such

ancient legends that show up in the Book of Mormon, and these specifically have to do

with the story about the Jaredites, a group of people that came to the Americas direct from

the destruction at the Tower of Babel. How much do these ancient legends end up supporting the

Book of Mormon and how little access did Joseph Smith actually

have to those legends? That will be the focus of tonight's discussion on Radio Free Mormon.

I was a Mormon apologist for many, many years. And as a Mormon apologist, one of the favorite tactics, both

then, as well as now apparently, is to look at ancient Jewish legends and myths, legends and

myths that did not make it into the Bible, and yet are reflected in ancient documents,

documents to which Joseph Smith did not have access. And then when those

ancient legends or myths appear in the pages of the Book of Mormon, the question an

apologist asks is always, how did Joseph know? Or how could Joseph Smith have known? And tonight,

we're going to look at two of those myths as they relate

to the book of ether, and specifically the story of the Jaredites, who came to the Americas

anciently direct from the destruction at the Tower of Babel. And the Tower of Babel is that connecting

link with the Bible, because of course that story
