What's going on everyone? Welcome back to the podcast. It is Tuesday, November 14th, almost halfway through November already, and I hope your gardens are going well if you are still growing. So today's question comes from Delia and it's a pretty simple one.

It's one that doesn't really have a whole lot to do with gardening per se but what she wanted to know is how I got

into gardening and I think that it's an interesting story because a lot of people my

age aren't gardeners they don don't grow plants, they don't

understand where food comes from, they don't understand the costs and

sacrifices that are associated with growing food.

And so, you know, I figured I would just riff on how I got into gardening.

And my story is pretty simple. I've always been someone who

really enjoys science, really enjoys

enjoys experimentation, has always had a bunch of different hobbies,

much to the detriment of certain things in life, maybe career aspirations or progress in other areas, but these

hobbies have always been so interesting to me.

And so one summer, I would say about seven or eight years ago my brother came home from

college and he was the type of person who would always want to play video games and

you know go on adventures with his friends and I said hey you know what how

about this year we try a new hobby let's figure something now let's figure some

active outdoors to do for the summer so maybe we're playing video games less and we're indoors less, we're more

experiencing the real world nature. And so I gave him a couple ideas and he ended up picking

gardening, which him a couple ideas and he ended up picking gardening which I was very surprised at I thought he might pick up you know surfing or

volleyball or any of these things but he ended up picking gardening so what we did is we went down to the local garden center,

like I think a lot of people do.
