How can you create your own personal milestones?

So you may be familiar with the term milestones, which if you Google it, you'll see images of stones,

and they're essentially just markers along a path.

And what I find to be so fascinating about this image of a milestone is that it is something physical.

So a lot of times when we talk about milestones, it's about things that other people may be able to see.

Like other people can see when we've accomplished something in our lives and we've reached a

milestone. And I started to think about how I'm always thinking about how different words

work their way into our language and culture and we just use them, I use them, and just really

unpacking the significance of a word like that.

And I started to reflect on how just physical milestones is just one kind of milestones.

There are other ways to reach a milestone.

You can reach a milestone in the kind of courage that you would like to have in your life, or the sense of self-compassion that you would like to have.

Maybe for years you were just not compassionate toward yourself, and then one day you decided that you were going to go on that journey of learning how to become more compassionate

toward yourself. And even if you haven't fully arrived, just that moment of recognition

that it wasn't something that you had been focusing on before and then you decided to focus on it,

that is a milestone because you made it to a point where you decided,

here's a new beginning, this is where something different is going to start.

So I started to think about how I as a writer and an artist could create some room for myself

and others to really think about those inner milestones,

the milestones of inner life.

Because those might be harder to name because we cannot physically see them.

Other people can't see them.
