Yesterday was Memorial Day, and I have now had over 60 of them, and one thing

remains constant. Well, several things remain constant, but the one thing that definitely remains

constant is a struggle to find the words to effectively communicate this overwhelming sense of gratitude

or condolence or sympathy or understanding for those who lost their lives or those who lost

loved ones in service and sacrificed to our country.

You would think somebody that uses words for a living as a lawyer would be

able to find the words, but never been able to do it. It's the one day we set aside to

honor people who can no longer hear us. I mean, it's good to honor and celebrate service as well,

which is while we have a day set aside in November to do that. That's the day I

vividly recall going to events and seeing the men and women who wore the uniform or going to church

and the pastor would ask those who served to stand. And of course, we all clapped and we showed this

overwhelming gratitude. My father was in the Air Force after medical school.
