I'm your host, retired NYPD, Sergeant Bill Cannon, a 27-year veteran of the NYPD.

Yesterday we had another, it seems it's never ending,

an active shooter on the Florida State University campus.

As of now, two were killed and six were injured.

And the perpetrator was taken into custody.

That's what we know now.

The motive, unclear. What we do know is that the shooter has been identified, and he is the son of a sheriff's deputy. And apparently he used her firearm to commit this heinous act.

And he was taken into custody by the police.

After he was wounded, he refused to make a statement.

Currently, he's in custody at a local hospital.

We're going to go and give you a briefing on what occurred, what we know so far since yesterday.

Just these active shooting cases are just so tragic.

It seems that we can't no matter what stop them.

The best we can do is mitigate them and the way law enforcement response to these has evolved over the years to a great precision

response that largely holds down the number of fatalities. But that's not good enough.

You know, if you're a parent that sends their child to school,

you want to make sure that they come home just as safe as they are the minute they left.

And these active shooting cases are just, they happen too much, much too often.

So folks, hold on to your hats.

Hold on to your loved ones.

Hold on to your cup of coffee.
