We've got a fun one today.

We have Carlton Davis on the back end, irrelevant questions with him, and Phil and I are going to go well kind of rapid fire

through things but one of the things I want to highlight first Phil is the running game and in doing

so here's Mike Frable talking about what the Patriots need to accomplish as they go to this game

against the Saints trying to validate a little bit their win over Buffalo.

It has to be better at the line of scrimmage at the second level, you know,

and then continue to try to finish to break some of these.

And we've had some good runs.

It's just the, you know, not enough of them, not enough, you know, double-digit runs, you know, that help your average.

So again, I think that, you know, we've got to stop talking about being one guy away or one block

away. I think that was a big theme from last week, and that'll have to fix.

Phil, what is so amiss with this running game? Michael Felger criticized Josh McDaniel's plan last week a little bit. He said, what the hell? You know, they didn't make any yards until the second half when May started to do things on his own. Why were they running? They're running because they should be able to run. It was the 31st ranked run defense. They should have been able to make hay there.

Why are they not effective yet?

This is now several weeks where they've gone against run defenses that are not anybody's idea of elite.

Raiders were that way, Steelers were that way, and now the bills, and they really just haven't been able to do anything consistently.

And I'm writing about this for NBC SportsBoston.com and had a chance to talk to Lyman, Bax, as well.

And they do feel like they're getting close, but I understand variable sentiment, which is we can't just keep telling ourselves that we're close and not actually produce good runs or a consistent running game

in general. We have to actually execute. So for Morgan Moses, it's focusing on making sure

they get up to the second level, that linebacker level.

So it's good to take care of your guys at the line of scrimmage. But if you're working on that double team, make sure you get off and you can get to that second guy so you can give those running backs even a little bit more space. You know, Garrett Bradbury feels as though there are four-yard runs that could be eight-yard runs, and there are two-and-three-yard runs that
