Summary

In this episode of the Ask Me Anything Podcast, Pastor J.D. answers the question of how to respond to hypocritical Christians.

Show Notes:

* This question is valid. Jesus said he died to create a new breed of people. But so many aren't any different than the world. So how do you handle that?
* First, realize hypocrisy is more about being human than it is a particularly Christian thing.
* Second, hypocrisy doesn’t invalidate the message.
* Lastly, look at Jesus! The church is supposed to adorn Jesus, and it’s tragic when it fails happens; but when they fail you, look at him.

Hey, everybody, welcome to Ask Me Anything. My name is Matt Love, and I am your host, and I'm here to ask Pastor J.D.

0:25.5

A really, really good question that you may have asked or be asking right now. The question is,

0:30.9

how can I trust Christians when so many are so hypocritical?

0:36.0

Matt, that's a question that a lot of people wrestle with.

0:38.6

Unfortunately, I think it's easy for the world around us

0:41.8

to look at Christians as a whole and say,

0:43.7

honestly, you're not that much better than me.

0:45.6

Why would I follow the God that you claim to follow

0:48.5

who is so much better, so much more glorious

0:51.7

than what I believe in and what I build my life on.

0:56.2

Honestly, Matt, when I hear this question, I'm a little torn just to be totally transparent

0:59.3

because a lot of times that question comes from people who are really speaking slanderously

1:05.1

or at least just with very, just not with a fair perspective um they're just you know they're kind of

1:13.7

believing what what i hate just in mainstream media but they're believing what some stereotypes are

1:18.8

about christians and the reality is it's just not accurate you know i mean christians have always

1:23.5

even in their best even the best Christians Christians have been accused by the world because our

1:28.5

enemy is at work in the world trying to slander the name of Jesus. They get accused. I mean,

1:31.9

the earliest Christians at the time when the church was at one of its healthiest, you know, they

1:36.7

were called atheists and cannibals. Neither of those things were accurate, but it's just something

1:41.3

that our enemy does. And so I'm torn because on one side, I'm like, I don't know if you're responding to a fair picture. Just because you saw that about

1:47.5

Christians in, you know, the media or in a movie doesn't mean that's the way we actually are. And

1:53.0

you have a tendency to latch onto a couple of smaller things and pretend like that defines the whole. But on the other hand, on the other hand, I know
