So the other day I was talking to my kids and they brought up a great question.

They were curious about other religions and in particular other holy books.

You think of something like the Quran and Islam, for example.

And their question was, Dad, how do we know that the Bible is true and not these other books?

I mean, don't they believe that their God is the right God

and that what they're being taught in these books

or in this book is the truth?

No. Really, their question is, how can I know that the Bible is true? So, first and foremost, being persuaded of the scriptures is really the work of the Holy Spirit.

In order to fully grasp the divine source of scripture, we need the divine work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

There's this great scene in Luke chapter 24, versus 44 through 46, where Jesus is with a couple of his disciples on the road to Emmaus.

He said to them, these are my words that I spoke to you while I was with you,

that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.

Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures and said to them, thus it is written

that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.

We need a divine illumination to understand the Bible. And this means that as you

talk to people, one thing that you should do is pray that the spirit would be at work in their

lives. Every time you open the Bible for yourself personally, you should pray for illumination.

Now, this doesn't mean that there aren't other concrete evidences that we can point to in order to show the Bible's inspiration.
