This is Our Body Politics. I'm Mara S. Campo, anchor and managing editor at Revolt Black News,

sitting in for Farai Chodea. We've talked before on the show about how important it is to reflect and to rest.

Well, now we're digging into a new way that people are taking care of themselves, and that's by embracing the soft

life. Hashtag soft life is a recent social media trend with origins in Nigeria that is

resonating big time with black women in the United States. It's not about living a life of luxury

with nannies, a nice whip, and millions in the bank, though there is

nothing wrong with that. The true focus of the soft life movement focuses on black women

prioritizing their wellness, their happiness, and a desire to stop feeding into the trope

of the strong black woman. Joining me now is Dr. Judith Joseph, a board-certified psychiatrist and chair of Women in Medicine

Collaborative at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
