In the electric vehicle market, we may be looking at something of a breakthrough.

Earlier this month, Toyota announced that it was working on a new type of EV battery that was

safer and faster to charge than current batteries on the market. If all goes to plan,

the batteries will cut the size and cost of power units for Toyota's EVs in half, the company said.

That's quite the powerful announcement, and here's why.

Currently, EV batteries use liquid lithium ion electrolytes to power vehicles,

but those liquid batteries have plenty of well-documented shortfalls,

a tendency to burst into flames flames for one. But Toyota's
