Summary

From AP Essay Writing to YouTube-ing to Business Building

Hey CEO teachers! Have you ever wanted to take your area of expertise -- something like, say...AP essay writing -- and turn it into a successful YouTube channel AND an even more successful business? Does that sound impossible? Well, friend, even if you're not an expert at what makes a good AP essay, I'm here to tell you... you don't need to be. Because my guest today, the amazing teacher turned CEO Teacher Business owner, Beth Hall, has taken her brilliance around a very specific topic -- which, in her case, is AP essay writing -- and turned it into a teacher-business. Most of all, while AP essay writing is unique to Beth, it's the focus on her specialty that makes her business...well, special! And as a teacher yourself, I'm willing to bet that you have something unique and specific to offer, also. So sharpen your pencils and let the testing begin, because this AP essay writing business story is a 5 out of 5.

AP Essay Writing Tips - The Case Study

Here's a more about Beth: Beth Hall is a high school English teacher from Arkansas who specializes in teaching AP Language and Composition, an advanced placement course that focuses on helping students analyze nonfiction passages to improve their academic writing skills. In February 2019, Beth started a YouTube channel called Coach Hall Writes. Each week, Beth uploads a tutorial video to help teachers and students prepare for the AP Lang exam. In 2020, AP Lang teachers named the Coach Hall Writes YouTube channel one of the best resources to help prepare students for the AP Lang exam. And whatever your speciality is -- whether it's how to write an AP essay or Don Quixote in Spanish -- you're going to learn that being a specialist is a special superpower than can be converted into a business. So I started getting involved in different Facebook groups because a lot of AP Lang teachers are

0:05.2

part of these well-established Facebook groups.

0:07.4

Now, I don't own the group or anything, but I started devoting a little bit of time each day

0:12.8

to read through the post and figure out what people were talking about.

0:16.1

And I would comment on people's posts, especially if nobody else had.

And then I realized that there was this one, especially if nobody else had. And then I realized that there

0:21.7

was this one skill that people were struggling with. And so I made a video about that skill,

0:27.1

and I got up the courage to post it in the group. And over time, I was pretty selective about

0:32.5

which videos I put out there for everyone to see. And over time, other people started commenting, oh, hey,

0:38.6

Coach Hall has this video about this topic. Here's a link. So then as I started to become, I guess,

0:45.0

more well-known, other people started helping you do that legwork. But I had to realize that if I wanted

0:50.9

to grow on YouTube, I needed to not only consistently upload high-quality YouTube

0:55.3

videos, but also I needed to make sure that I was meeting my ideal customers where they are.
