Okay, today we are talking about how to repot an orchid, how and when actually to repot an orchid.

Orchids usually in the past were grown by,

now I don't want to say oddballs,

but just people who were very much into orchids and plants

and they weren't a common thing for the average person to grow.

But now they're everywhere. The house plan explosion has really caused a resurgence

or a growth in the popularity of housepland, of orchids, but at a cost because orchids do not grow like most other houseplants.

They're an epiphytic plant, which means that they don't require soil to grow. They will grow in bark, charcoal,

moss, sometimes even stone and that makes them a very finicky plant.

They are susceptible to disease, the roots are more exposed than other plants,

and in general, because they're so unique and the growing requirements are so unique,

a lot of gardeners, especially beginners, have a hard time understanding exactly how to care

for these plants.

So today we're going to tackle the question of when to repot them. So there are two main ways to tell if your orchid plant needs to be repotted. The first is an obvious one that's common to many house plants.

Is it growing out of its container? And the way you find that out is if you see roots

popping out between the spaces in the container, maybe coming out of the drainage

hole at the bottom, that is a very clear and present sign that your orchid plant needs to be
