Mayoral Politics. It's been a couple weeks and we now finally have a result in the New York City

Democratic primary race, which means Bridget Bergen of WNYC is back with us on the podcast.

Welcome, Bridget. Great to be here. So Eric Adams has been declared the winner.

If he were to win the general election, he'd become only the second black mayor in New York City's history.

Bridget, can you remind us what has been the focus of his candidacy?

Well, Osma, he really has run a campaign about public safety and his ability as someone with a

background in law enforcement to be able to provide both a solution to some of the crime that we're

seeing across the city while also improving the police department's operations in increasing police

reform. Eric Adams is a former NYPD captain who then went on to become a state senator and now

currently a Brooklynboro president. You know, while we've heard a lot of talk across the country

and here in the city about efforts to defund the police department, he has been really openly

opposed to that type of rhetoric and talks about not needing less policing but needing better policing

and wanting to make sure the people who are out policing the city's streets are doing it fairly
