Today we're getting into a little known topic, the effect of AI on jobs. I'm sure none

of you have thought about it. But we have some actual numbers on this, some studies to kick around.

As I mentioned, several stories today shining a light on the effect of generative models on jobs.

Aggregate employment in developed countries remains stable. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics or the BLS shows that the

unemployment rate for jobs potentially most affected by generative models is lower than for less

exposed occupations. That is very good news. U.S. census data shows that one in five companies is

using generative models in a business

function. That might be a little less than you would expect. So the pervasiveness of these tools

is probably a little overstated in the general press. The Yale Budget Lab has been studying

this since back when Chad GPT launched, and their report in March found

changes in the types of jobs was high, but that is a trend that predated the appearance

of Chad GPT. And when they look at unemployment duration for those in roles that are thought

to be exposed to AI, they didn't find an effect.

There is unemployment duration changes, but they don't seem to be affected by the use of the tools.

Now, they're going to do an update in a few weeks, and we'll see if that holds.

Then the MIT Technology Review had a great article detailing how we're seeing the first effect on entry-level

positions. And that's where the news is not as good. Anthropic released a report this past

March that found, and I'll quote, suggestive evidence that hiring of younger workers has

slowed in exposed occupations. And a working paper released November by the Stanford
