Summer is almost here, and consumers are getting ready to cutback.

Marketplace's Nancy Marshall-Genzor reports on a new survey that says people will still travel this summer, but their trips will be cost-conscious.

60% of Americans plan to travel this summer, according to a survey of more than 1,500 consumers from the audit tax and advisory firm KPMG,

plus data from the consumer intelligence firm's civic science. Almost four and ten consumers

are planning their trips around a specific event, like a concert, but they will squeeze every

travel dollar until it begs for mercy. KPMG says almost 40% are looking

for cheaper alternatives. They're opting for shorter trips, one to three days instead of a week.
