How about a summer staycation?

Summer is almost here, and consumers are getting ready to cutback. Marketplace's Nancy Marshall-Genzor reports on a new survey that says

people will still travel this summer, but their trips will be cost-conscious. 60% of Americans

plan to travel this summer, according to a survey of more than 1,500 consumers from the audit tax and advisory firm, KPMG, plus data from the consumer intelligence firm's civic science.

Almost 4 and 10 consumers are planning their trips around a specific event, like a concert, but they will squeeze every travel dollar until

it begs for mercy. KPMG says almost 40% are looking for cheaper alternatives. They're

opting for shorter trips, one to three days instead of a week. They're driving instead of flying.

69% planned to stay in the U.S., and they're saving up now for their summer getaways.

About three-quarters say they'll consider eating at home more to save money,

and when they do go out, they're heading to quick-serve restaurants.

The Federal Reserve meets this week to decide what it should do about spiking inflation and a cool labor market.

Signs are that it'll hold interest rates where they are for now.
