Summary

This week on How 2 Tuesday we go over the splash-less cast. This can be an excellent technique for landing a shrimp or jig right in front of a fish’s face without spooking them. This does take a LOT of practice though. In this episode I go over the technique and movements that you should be making. I also go over what tackle is best for this situation. Just like a bass angler practices flipping jigs, this is something that you can practice in your pool or canal so make sure that you have this technique dialed in before you try it on a big permit or bonefish! WARNING!! - Some attempts at the splash-less cast result in nuclear-like explosions if not done exactly right. Make sure to practice! control with a spinning rod and a good presentation. A lot of people call it

0:49.8

the splashless cast. Okay, splashless cast is exactly that. You throw a jig, a shrimp, a crab, and you can

0:58.6

actually make that thing land in the water with a spinning rod without a splash.

1:05.8

Okay, some people are really good at it.

Some of the best I've ever seen, Mark Croka,

he's very good at it.

There are a lot of great fishermen out there that can really do this.

1:15.0

And when you see somebody do it, it's a beautiful thing.

1:22.0

And when somebody can do it very very consistently they can be they

1:26.6

can be real real aggressive with their presentation because they can actually make a live shrimp land in the water with zero splash and they can throw it very very very close to the fish and in order to do this it takes a lot of practice and a lot of fly fishermen think that there aren't

1:44.0

there there's not a lot of skill associated with spin fishing and it could not be

1:47.9

further from the truth in fact I would say this is way more difficult than a lot of

1:52.1

flycasts and in order to do it well you need to practice

1:56.4

way more than you need to practice with a fly rod.
