This is The Marketplace Minute. I'm Justin Ho.

Stocks closed higher on Friday. The Dow gained more than 2%,

the S&P rose more than a tenth of a percent,

and the NASDAQ added a little less than a tenth of a percent.

The net worth of US households rose in the second quarter,

according to the Federal Reserve, up 3.7%.

About half of that was because of the rising stock market,

and the other half was because of rising home values.

The same report found that household debt rose 2.7%.

Speaking of debt, a separate report from the Federal Reserve found that credit card balances,

and other types of revolving credit rose in July,

that's a sign that households still feel comfortable spending money.

And UPS says it's going to hike rates for its shipping services by 5.9% on average.

That's a smaller increase than UPS announced last year.

FedEx says it'll raise rates by the same amount.
