Welcome to Talking Real Money, and on this edition, we're doing something a little different.

We're going to talk about a subject that is near and dear to many of us, and yet it's not

something we discuss a lot because we generally don't consider your home as part of your

investment portfolio.

We consider that your place to live.

But today we want to talk about homes and mortgages and owning versus renting and and sticking together through

thick and thin as long as the mortgage isn't too high. I don't know. But anyway, welcome to

talking real money. I'm Don McDonald. That's Tom Cock. And my job is to make people mad.

That is my job. I've decided that's what I do. Tom, bad jokes,

me making people mad. It's just my lot in life. And I'm going to make a lot of red-blooded

Americans mad, because I'm going to tell you something, owning a home should not be the American dream,

at least not all the time. We are way too hung up on it.

And the reason I'm saying that is because of a fascinating article that was in the Wall Street

Journal about a guy, I think he was in Atlanta, yeah, Atlanta area, and he felt like he was feeling pressure to buy a house,

so he did it, and now he regrets it.

Yeah, it's a fascinating tale. Now, this is anecdotal, of course, but I think it is reflective

of a few themes here we should pay attention to.

He wanted to buy a house because people were buying houses, right?

That's right.

My friends and neighbors are buying houses. I got to get in on the thing.

And now he'd like to sell it and he can't sell it.
