It's Friday, February 14th, 2025. Happy Valentine's Day. Let's get into the mix. Here are your

Washington headlines of the day. Number one,

the House moves on the budget. Why can't the House and Senate get on the same page?

Number two, New Dems worry about their newfound popularity with progressives. And number three,

will Buttigieg be dubbed a carpet beggar in Michigan? All right, let's get into it.

All eyes were on the House Budget Committee and Representative Jody Arrington, the House Budget Committee chair yesterday after 12 hours of debate.

And the defeat of dozens of Democratic amendments, Republicans on the House Budget Committee approved,

a GOP budget resolution late last night, that's designed to unlock President Donald Trump's

legislative agenda. The question, of course, now is, will it be enough? Errington's plan,

the result of weeks of grueling internal negotiations,

call for about $1.5 trillion in spending cuts, as well as $1.5 trillion for tax cuts.

It boosts the debt limit by $4 trillion and includes provisions providing $300 billion

for increased defense and border security spending. Plus, Republicans amended the

resolution in Thursday's markup to shrink the scope of tax cuts if the GOP doesn't come up with

at least $2 trillion in spending cuts. That's more in line with what the House of Freedom

Caucus and Deficit Hawks have been seeking. Now, getting the budget resolution through committee was a critical win for Earrington and the House GOP leadership, especially Speaker Mike Johnson.

Of course, as we've been talking about on this podcast for weeks now, the process has been moving in fits and starts.
